Hey, I'm Emmy. I’m an award-winning journalist dedicated to accountability reporting. I’m interested in both holding those in power to their word and serving the public interest through my work. I have interned at POLITICO, The News & Observer, and The Dallas Morning News.
As editor of The Daily Tar Heel, UNC's independent nonprofit student newspaper, I learned how to make decisions quickly under pressure. On my sixth day as editor-in-chief, a UNC professor was shot and killed in his office. While hiding in the library as the campus went into lockdown, I published updates read by hundreds of thousands of people. The next day, The Daily Tar Heel’s front page went viral, catching the attention of President Joe Biden.
I also directed coverage of the departure of UNC's chancellor, dozens of campus protests, and a week-long encampment that ended in detainments and violence over Israel's war in Gaza.
